As part of my role as Instructional Technologist, I am occasionally asked to appear on our local Fox affiliate, WTVW Channel 7, to discuss gadgets, technology, LEGO or to promote events. I have captured my appearances and you can view them below. A big thanks goes to Fox 7 for allowing me to rebroadcast these sessions. December 4, 2006 – AM Evansville Inspector Gadget: Verticon Air Battle
Sarah Brownlee and I wage battle against each other in the Verticon Air Battle arenas. Verticon is a game based on that old Physics experiment where you point a hair-dryer up and then place a ping pong ball in the air stream allow the ping pong ball to hover in mid-air. The difference is that Wild Planet has added weapons to the ping pong ball and some rules for combat making this game VERY enjoyable for all ages.Purchase Verticon.


November 20, 2006 – AM Evansville Inspector Gadget: Digital Pacific Digital 8×10 Picture Frame
Sarah Brownlee and I look at the Cadillac of digital picture frames, the Digital Pacific. An 8×10 electronic display with a beautiful screen and sound capabilities to boot. While cheaper digital picture frames can be had, this one has all the bells and whistles, including sound and wireless support.

November 6, 2006 – AM Evansville Inspector Gadget: Xantrex Powerpack 200 Plus
Many folks called the station wondering how they can snag one of these useful gadgets for their own home or auto so I thought I would post the link I used to order mine. Click here to order from Amazon. This gadget provides power (both AC and DC), jumper cables, flashlight and an air compressor all in a single package. The perfect addition to your vehicle or home in case of an emergency. During a recent power outage, I plugged a 15w fluorescent bulb (which is the equivalent of a 60w incandescent light) into this baby and we had light in our home for over two-hours.

I introduce Sarah Brownlee to the Nokia 770 and she learns how to take the web (in usable form) with her in the palm of your hand. We also discuss once again one of our favorite terms to say on television, VOIP.


October 16, 2006 – AM Evansville Inspector Gadget: LEGO Mindstorms NXT Personal Robot
I join Sean McHose early in the morning to discuss and demonstrate LEGO’s newest robotics system the Mindstorms NXT. The system had been out for about three months and I was aware of its development while a LEGO Ambassador with secret “in the know” information. It was one of those secrets you really wanted to get out tell everyone about so it was good to get a chance to finally play with the system and then demonstrate its capabilities on the air.


September 25, 2006 – AM Evansville Inspector Gadget: Silverlit Picoo Z Miniature RC Helicopter
Sarah Brownlee becomes a pilot as she attempts to fly the smallest RC Helicopter I know of, the Silverlit Picoo Z. We discuss the availability and cost and even crash the thing a time or two! A simply amazing gadget for the $29.99 paid at the local Radio Shack. Get’em while they last as they probably will be a hot item for Christmas. In this spot, Sarah Brownlee and I discuss the Philips Seneso Coffee Maker and the various coffee pods that are available. This is our first WTVW/Ivy Tech Community College Inspector Gadget spot and is part of WTVW newly formatted AM Evansville morning show.


January 16th, 2006 – Evening News LEGO Competition Promo
Ron Rhodes, the local Fox 7 Weatherman, stopped by the college to help us promote our Historic Evansville in LEGO competition. This turned out to be a family event since Katherine, my daughter, also got some screen time.
